1. the body of citizens who constitute a state, esp. a city-state, commonwealth, or the like.
2. citizenship, esp. as imparting shared responsibility, a common purpose, and sense of community.
MARIANAS. Officially, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, in political union with the United States of America. A chain of 14 islands in the Pacific Ocean, at 15 degrees North latitude, 145 degrees East longitude.
